In February 2016 I received a phone call from a couple that wanted to plan a destination wedding in Fiji on New Year’s Eve. This was going to be for the couple only. The bride wanted to be saying their vows past midnight into 2017. Also, the couple lived in Georgia, so all planning was going to have to be done over the phone and email. I said, “Let’s do it!”
Camille and Monty had never been to Fiji before. The first item to take care of was finding the right resort for them and providing information about the Fijian Islands and how to get around from island to island because there are no roads.
They decided on the Royal Davui Resort and Spa staying in one of the island vales with a plunge pool for 12 nights:
Over the year we worked with the destination wedding coordinator on the island in planning out the timeline for the wedding, submitting the proper paperwork for the official marriage license that is valid in the US, and deciding on a location for the wedding.
Camille and Monty wanted to keep the wedding simple. They chose one of the beaches on the island. Even though the wedding would take place at midnight they still wanted to hear the sound of the ocean.
Over the year Camille and I talked weekly about various subjects: how to travel with her wedding dress, the weather in Fiji in December/January, activities to do, how to pack, and sometimes just to vent! She was nervous about the long flight and how to deal with jet-lag.
Finally, the time had come to send their travel documents and make sure the last touches were in place! Camille and I became friends on Facebook to keep me in the loop and so I could see pictures 🙂
Because the destination wedding was taking place at midnight formal photography was not much of an option, but they were able to get a few pictures and shared some pictures of their time on the island. We talked back and forth a little bit over the 12 nights. I received this message one morning:
That was my highlight! Knowing that Camille and Monty were enjoying their time as much as I thought they would!
With their permission, here are a few photos from their wedding and time spent in the Fijian Islands:
I love to hear client’s say, “We are going back! Please let us know when we should start booking our first year anniversary!” It was a pleasure to make sure Camille and Monty had the wedding of their dreams – I look forward to working with them on their anniversary!
