How to Honeymoon in Guatemala

41502Guatemala-Romantica

Guatemala is a country full of culture, history, lush landscapes, volcanoes, Mayan ruins and beaches.  A honeymoon in Guatemala is perfect for the couple that wants adventure and new cultural experiences.  Guatemala has such a diverse landscape and cultural offering that a full week would only give a taste of the country; it leaves a lot of room to come back and explore!

Antigua, Guatemala

Get outside of Guatemala City and head for the colonial city of Antigua.  Antigua is a quaint, quiet city that is rich in history, local artisans, and authentic cuisine.  Guatemala is known for their coffee – don’t leave without trying a cup or two!  Visit the markets for handmade items, tour the jade factory to see how jewelry is crafted, and window shop at the textiles stores.  You will be surprised by how many items are made by hand and where the items come from.  Visit Lookout Point for a chance to see the entire city and take a walking city tour with a local guide to learn more about the history of Antigua.

Lake Atítlan

At Lake Atítlan you will be far from the city and surrounded by lush landscapes and boutique hotels.  There are multiple villages surrounding the lake and the volcanoes.  After several days of walking the cobblestone streets or visiting the Mayan ruins Lake Atítlan will be a quiet sanctuary.  Enjoy the botanical gardens, go on a boat ride, take part in a Mayan ceremony, and peruse the local markets and restaurants.
