Two Top LGBT Destinations in Mexico

Puerto Vallarta

By far, the Mexican destination with the most prominent profile among LGBT travelers is Puerto Vallarta.  (Side note:  I will be in Puerto Vallarta in December!!)

A big reason for that popularity is infrastructure.  For years, this Pacific coast destination has -and is- home to an array of LGBT -owned and friendly- hotels, restaurants, bars and stores.  The destination features a centrally located gay beach and large expat LGBT community from the US.  Many LGBT-focused activities and businesses are centered around the Romantic Zone, a historic area downtown that’s easily navigated on foot.  Here, travelers can stroll between restaurants, shops and bars.  Tip:  The Swedes Bar and Bistro is a must-visit!

LGBT -owned and friendly- hotels such as Casa Cupula and Villa Mercedes Petit Hotel tend to be small and independent.  Larger properties, like Costa Sur Resort and Spa, has a dedicated LGBT section on its website, complete with information about same-sex weddings.

Another excellent destination is Mexico City.  The heart of the LGBT community is the Zona Rosa, a lively commercial and residential neighborhood where many gay bars and dance clubs line the street, Amberes.  Small and large hotels alike welcome LGBT travelers in Mexico City.  If Mexico City is not on your “must-travel” list there are several LGBT friendly cities and hotels in the whole of Mexico:  Quintana Roo area, Los Cabos, and the Cancun area, to name coastal cities.
